M. Jayachandran (Malayalam: എം ജയചന്ദ്രന്‍) is a film score composer, singer and musician in the Malayalam film industry. He has won Kerala State Film Awards for best music director in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010, maximum awards won by any music director. He also won the state award for best male singer in 2005. He is also known for his role as the chief judge in the television shows Amrita TV Superstar 2, Amrita TV Superstar Global and Idea Star Singer.

Early life

He was born in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) in Kerala, India. He had completed electrical engineering graduation from T.K.M. College of Engineering, Kollam. Jayachandran began learning Carnatic music at the age of 5. He was selected continuously four times, from 1987 to 1990, as the best singer in Carnatic music at the Kerala University youth festivals. He began his career in the film industry as a playback singer for the movie Vasudha in 1992, then became an assistant to Malayalam music director G. Devarajan. In 1995 he became a music director himself'; his debut movie was Chantha, directed by Sunil in 1995.
